Catching up

Wow – it’s been ages since I updated my blog! So much has happened in the last couple of months at the Snips residence that it became difficult to find the time to knit, much less update the blog. Due to some happy changes in circumstances, I will now have much more time to knit and blog!

As a quick catch-up, we’ve had a nice November. The weather has actually been very nice and I’ve gotten in a few outdoor walks, though it is finally starting to turn appropriately cold.

We enjoyed Thanksgiving at my mom and dad’s house. My mom, aunt, cousin, her friend and I ventured out late on Thanksgiving to a Super Target, but the madness was a bit much for me, and I wussed out and went home while we were waiting in line since I wasn’t buying anything.

Instead of shopping on Black Friday, we went to a friend’s place for “Friendsgiving,” which is an awesome idea! Everyone gets to eat and visit with their family on Thursday, and then join up for a second feast with friends the next day. We had a really great time playing games and socializing.

This Saturday, we put up all the inside Christmas decorations. Mr Snips had put out the outdoor lights the weekend before while it was 60 degrees (tropical for Indiana in November!), and we left them unplugged until after Thanksgiving. It was nice to have that prepped and ready to go in advance.

I do have a few finished objects to share with you, but I’ll wait until the next post to start that. We’ll ease back into this with a quick shot of my current WIP – with a bonus background of our Christmas tree!

New project for November 2012

I also thought that I would take some time since the year is nearly over to see how I’m doing on my 2012 goals. I think I’m doing alright…comments in italics below.

  1. At best guess, I completed somewhere around 21 projects last year. I’d like to complete more that that this year. DONE!
  2. Complete my first pair of toe-up socks. DONE!
  3. Complete a lace or lace-like project. NOT DONE. I still don’t think I like lace enough to try to tackle it. This will probably get moved to next year’s goals. 🙂
  4. Knit only from my stash for the first two months of the year. Don’t really remember how I did on this, but I think I did OK.
  5. Learn to use my sewing machine. Did this!
  6. Complete one sewing project on my own. I had weekly sewing lessons with my mom for a few weeks and made an apron with her help. It still needs a few finishing touches (snaps at the neck and the threads trimmed), but this can easily be done by the end of the year. I think I’ll have time to take on a small project of my own, but haven’t identified it yet. I need to start brainstorming now!
